FGE/ELG. 5th Feb., 1931. YOURS Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Nightingale Rd., Derby. Dear Sirs, SHUTTER THERMOSTATS. For the attention of Mr. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Royce. We are despatching under separate cover two Smithermets in accordance with your request. These are both arranged to commence to thrust at 80 degrees centigrade, and are both filled with "J" Spirit, and so stamped. The performance of these instruments is as follows:- 80 degrees cent: neutral, ie:- no pull or thrust at bottom of stroke. 90 " " 17.5 lbs: thrust at end of stroke .425". 100 " " 46.0 " " " " " " " ". The thrust available at say 90° at the bottom or commencement of the stroke is naturally greater than the above figure. The second "J" instrument was asked for by Mr. Robotham.
