"INDIA" AUTHORISATION SHEET NO.9.
***************************

Trouble arose in connection with the undershields for "India" plus F.W.B. We have recently received the West WitteringHenry Royce's home town designs which are necessary in order to clear the brake ropes running to the front axle.

In order to get the undershield in satisfactorily, it is necessary to modify slightly the front axle, which can be done on axles delivered, and secondly, to provide an entirely new pump casing for the oil pump.

I have discussed this matter with Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} R.{Sir Henry Royce} has definitely stated it is necessary, and we are of the opinion that it will have to be done.

In regard to delay, I am afraid at the moment we cannot tell you precisely what this will mean, but every effort will be made to get the job forward at the earliest possible moment. The facts of the case are that an undershield must be fitted. To fit an undershield, it has been demonstrated by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} that the alterations in question are necessary.

The modifications affect the following sections:-

1. Undershield.✓
2. Oil Pump.
3. Front Axle.
