N/W. 361 Br/Bk{A. Birkett - Commercial Manager}4/W.16.6.38. re Chassis 3-AZ-68 - Sir John Leigh. Your memo ref: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}8/MH.{M. Huckerby}14.6.38. We are of the opinion that the reported jack failure on this car was entirely due to the human element. The puncture occurred somewhere about mid-night, and we think that the Chauffeur was so excited that he did not use the jack pump correctly. The contributory cause, we find, was due to the jack pump handle fouling the wireless set and so restricting about a third of the travel. Immediately the car came in here we checked the level of oil in the supply tank, and this was found to be correct. We then jacked the car up in the ordinary way and the jacks worked perfectly. The jack which was sent to you was sent more as a precautionary measure than otherwise, owing to the importance of this customer. Bk.{A. Birkett - Commercial Manager} | ||
