ORIGINAL TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} SECRET R4/M10. 4. 24. Copy to O.J. " NO. " SY. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. X9940 BRAKE OPERATING GEAR. (COMBINED SYSTEMS). N.SCH. 1782. As far as I can see this seems about right, but pins and parts look very strong for the load. We use big pins on back axle because of the wear, no lubrication, much vibration, and mud, but here it seems different and one would think could be smaller, and lighter. I cannot understand how we get wrong with our servo. Have we the correct μ co-efficient of friction? Could we not use the unbonded material with greater co-efficient, as the design allows this. I cannot say I favour brakes as vigorous as Hispano for the foot pressure, and should prefer it to need more, and be very consistent. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
