CONTROL OF FRONT AXLE. 49420 Y3441

I have not replied to the above memo. as I expected to be home very soon.

It is not likely that we shall use any more complicated front axle controls at present until we have exhausted existing ones, but the design committee should examine any designs that are proposed by ourselves and others.

For the near future we are lengthening the front spring so that it is probable we could go back to the old degree of flexibility and leave the torque from the brakes much as the 25% stiffer springs.

It would not be logical to abandon the torque tube control of the back axle and rely on the springs for all the control of the back axle and at the same time put a torque member on the front axle.

I am proposing that we continue the design committee at WW. after my return. It will then be RG.{Mr Rowledge} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}, plus HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and R.{Sir Henry Royce}, so that you will be less dependent upon me.*
We should deal with all design and experimental research work at these meetings.

R.{Sir Henry Royce}
