re. PHANTOM II. BOOM PERIODS.

With reference to Mr. Davies' Car, No.147-GY. the following is a report on the re-delivery of the above car to Mr. Davies, after the body had been changed from his old chassis,100-GY to his new chassis,147-GY:-

"I re-delivered the above car to owner after complaint. Previous to taking car to his residence I went on to Watford by-pass with PN.{Mr Northey} and Mr. Grylls of "W" with a view to comparing with another car.

I afterwards drove the car to Buckhurst Hill and met Mr. Davies and his chauffeur. We took the car on the road and did about 40 miles. This I discovered was due to his rushing his changes and was soon able to put him right, his whole trouble being due to over anxiety. Mr. Davies also handled the car for the first time and shaped quite well, remarking on the ease of handling for a car of its size and power. As regard the complaint he is satisfied that the car is now all that he desires and expressed his pleasure in the way the Company had met him and their endeavours to put the job right." Fleck.

Dealing with the question of body booms etc. JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} was able to bring to our attention the other day, a remark in a letter he had received from Mr. Heath of Messrs. Thrupp & Maberly, extract of which is as follows:-

"Knowing that you have been troubled with body boom on 40/50 HP.Chassis I venture to suggest a remedy which was successfully tried out by another chassis manufacturer with complete success.

It was found that the boom at various periods corresponded with exhaust roar and by insulating the silencer from the chassis it has an immediate cure. This insulation was carried out by means of suspending the silencer from the chassis frame on Silentbloc bushes; There is enough elasticity in these bushes to absorb vibration and noise yet they are sufficient to carry the silencer and exhaust pipe.
