Test report on vehicle water temperature, oil leaks, shock dampers, and fuel quality.

losing its clearance at this mileage.

Re water temperatures. We have completed one set of tests during the early part of this morning, the air temperature being down to 17 to 17.5°C. The general temperature has cooled down considerably this last week.

We shall not be able to complete our 500 miles to-day, owing to there being too many people about on the roads and traffic, due to it being the 14th. July, which is the French National Holiday. We are therefore carrying out tests to find out whether we can prevent the water being thrown out of the radiator.

Re oil leaks. We have got a bad oil leak from the steering pendulum lever gland. It is considerably worse than any previous cars we have had.

Re the front shock dampers. We drilled a small hole in the filler caps of the front shock dampers, which has cured the compressed air trouble which we have reported, and also we do not appear to be losing any oil through these air holes. It would be wise to confirm this on other shock dampers.

We are dismantling and sending to you one of the American valve springs as requested.

Re the commercial petrol. We have tried to obtain the specification of this, but are unable to obtain anything satisfactory, they cannot give us any particulars in Châteauroux. It seems to be a mixture of paraffin and petrol. There is no indication of any benzol being in this spirit. It is very susceptible to heat, and if this kind of spirit is used in America, there will be definite trouble with not having
