COPY. S/W. (EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}) CWB4/LH{Mr Haworth}23.12.24. Car No. 68-TM. Sir Mortimer Singer. This car was worked on at 'N' for the week-end and I re-tested it on Monday morning. I found a very marked improvement in the booming throughout the speed range while the transmission groan had practically entirely disappeared; there remaining only a negligible noise round about 20 m.p.h. Sir Mortimer Singer tried the car himself yesterday afternoon and expressed himself as very pleased, and he has now taken it over. Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} advises me that on examining the axle they found that the ball in the centre of the axle tube was firmly held by the loose ring of the joint and was practically immovable, that considerable easing of the ball had to be done before the loose ring could be fully screwed up, and that no further improvement to that obtained after this was done, was made by any adjustment to the gear box; in fact, that the best adjustment was as originally set. It, therefore, appears that the sole cause of this trouble was due to this joint which was improperly adjusted and would appear, somehow or other, to have passed inspection in this state. Will you please take this up in the proper quarter? (Sgd.) CWB. | ||
