| xwb Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.24/KW. 17th January, 1935. Messrs. Thomas Firth & John Brown Ltd., Spring Dept., Tinsley, Sheffield. Dear Sirs, In order to save weight on axle road springs, will you please let us have a blue print of a lightened form of the Bentley rear spring FB.903 - 900 lbs. We see no reason why our Bentley springs should not be as highly, if not slightly higher, stressed than our front springs on the R.R. 20/25 and 40/50 chassis. At the moment your 825 lbs. spring weighs 38½ lbs., whereas we have tested a satisfactory Woodhead spring weighing only 30½ lbs. Will you please therefore let us know the weight of the lightest road spring for the Bentley which it is sensible for us to test on our bumper rig. Perhaps you will let us have similar information concerning the front Bentley springs. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
