| x146 Exptl. Dept. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.12/KW. 7th February,1935. Messrs. Thos. Firth & John Brown Ltd., Spring Dept., Tinsley Works, Sheffield. For the attention of Mr. Porter. Dear Sirs, With reference to your letter of the 6th inst. replying to ours of the 17th January reference HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.24/KW, we should like to point out that this letter was concerning some special lightened Bentley road springs, and not the 10" deflection 40/50 springs. Although we are very pleased to hear that the 10" deflection springs will be despatched next Saturday, we are rather concerned that we have heard no news at all about the Bentley springs. When your Mr. Wolstenholme was at the Works some time ago, he produced a drawing of your proposed lightened Bentley rear spring estimated to weigh 32 lbs. This is of no interest to us as we have already tested a completely satisfactory spring weighing 30 lbs., made by Messrs. Woodhead. We have been expecting from you a drawing of a Bentley rear spring considerably lighter than the Woodhead spring. We know the Woodhead is satisfactory, and we do not want to repeat tests on a spring which is not considerably more highly stressed than the Woodhead. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
