Dear Sirs,

For attention of Mr. Robotham.

We are in receipt of yours of September 8th, and have been carefully going into the points which you raise therein.

1. We know you will realise the necessity with which we were faced at the introduction of the fused seal, viz., that its incorporation should come within the existing overalls of the former instrument, and the retention of the length of scale, factors of safety at the top of the glass etc. Further, we have found it highly advisable to make the fuse of the seals to the flexible metallic tube of a certain minimum length, and in addition the bend in the flexible metallic tube must not be closer to the fused seal than it now is. This has given us only just room to get the taper portion of the seal, the seal itself, and
