1/10 By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/NRC{N. R. Chandler} 1/ER 16.2.39. Clutches supplied by Borg & Beck. The points raised in Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/Les 1/ER and Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/NRC{N. R. Chandler} 1/JH 8.2.39. were discussed by By, Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}, Les and NRC{N. R. Chandler}, and the following recommendations were made for the 'Long' 10" clutch, one of which has already done some 35,000 miles on 8 B.V. Item 3. - Material of set screw securing bracket need not be altered to special steel such as S/NCR. Item 4 - Pressure plate need not be enamelled. Item 7 - Recommend dull plating for release levers to prevent rust. Item 8 - We to test the standard B & B finish for rust in steaming atmosphere, if it does not rust readily we accept it, if it does, Bonderize, but not enamel. Item 9. - Agree outside of cover need not be machined, location off holes only, reason as stated in Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/NRC{N. R. Chandler} 1/JH 8.2.39. Items10 and 11 - If it is found that the cover pressing is reasonably well balanced, when located off holes i.e. within about 1 ounce/inch, the whole assembly may be balanced by drilling the long bosses inside the springs. Item 12 - We recommend filing up the lugs of the pressure plate which project through the cover, as this greatly improves the appearance of the assembly, but it will be necessary to brush paint this part to prevent rust, aluminium paint or black paint is suggested. We suggest that Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} discusses these points with Borg & Beck after which a conference with Messrs. Armitage and Barker would be desirable.
