Coverley - Production Engineer} c. to Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} Cricklewood, May 27th, 1937. Phantom III Carburettor Flooding. Sir John Lee Phantom III carburettor for the third time flooded today. The car was taken to the Depot after giving the driver instructions how to deal with it. A new complete carburettor was fitted, also 100 mesh gauze to the filter. I examined the carburettor taken off and inside the float chamber found four fine turnings which had come from the filter body. I could not find any in the well of the needle valve chamber only fine particles of aluminium. There were the usual small flakes of black enamel and sand. The carburettor is being sent to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} so I enclosed the fine turnings wrapped up in paper and have placed it in the float chamber for safety, during despatch. This case in my opinion further proves the investigation. I would like to draw attention to a fine flash left on the needle valve housing. The position is where the slot is machined out. I have left it on for you to see. This being on the top side of the valve seating would not cause flooding, but it should have the attention of the makers.
