K.R. 589 (Rpt) O.S.Dgn-17-7-25 M/16082 X.140 Extract from FHR6/Hll.12.12. Re Series 2500 and 2600. X.140. X.383. In conclusion I am quite in agreement with Mr. Johnson that we must introduce hopeful parts to replace the known defective ones more quickly than we do, and we ought to be like a terrier with rat and shake the job up until we have made some progress on this jaggering brake question. Since we have found out through Messrs. Barrington, Platford & Hives' efforts the cause of this trouble we seem to have done very little indeed to get rid of it. I have learnt nothing of what is going on the current cars. I have heard nothing as to whether the case-hardened brake drum is better than the soft one, whether the removal of the flanges allows a little more oil to get on and so improve matters slightly, whether any of the materials other than cast iron for shoes have been superior. In fact I have heard very little, and this bad fault in the chassis has been allowed to drift on apparently without any of the multitude of suggestions being taken any practical advantage of.
