Childs}18/AP.23.8.37, half a dozen K.L.G. F.30.X.type plugs were fixed in the engine of the above chassis as requested, on the 23.8.37, but after a few days a request was made that three should be changed for Champion plugs. Since fixing the plugs they have not been touched, cleaned or adjusted, or even inspected. Running and starting has been good, even under cold conditions. On Friday a certain amount of missing fire on pick-up was noticeable, also the engine failed to start under very cold conditions unless the ballast resistance was temporarily "shorted". According to odometer readings the three K.L.G. F.30.X plugs had run 5,485 miles; the three Champion plugs 4,971 miles. When originally fitted, the gaps were set to .020". When dismantled for inspection yesterday the plugs appeared to be in good condition, except that the gaps, K.L.G. were .030" and the Champion .025" to .030". We have cleaned the plugs as well as possible by external means and re-set the gaps to .020", and refixed the plugs for further running. Ethyl fuel has been used for running whenever possible.
