To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 17/6/33 - 2 - CLUTCH The clutch is perfect for first engagement, but has developed the same feature as I experienced when I first tried the car at Derby, that is, if you change from third to direct quickly keeping the throttle full open, the clutch grabs and is not a smooth take up. We have not had the slightest sign of the transmission rattle, and clutch wear is negligeable. CARBURETTER We obtained a carburetter from Paris, but found that the throttle was 1.375 instead of 1.5. We are endeavouring to obtain the larger throttle body. We fitted the air intake, taken off this carburetter along with the breather pipe and the consumption of petrol and oil was worse. The breather pipe was taken off with a immediate saving in oil. Our breather hole in the crankcase is too small in dia., which makes the velocity of the gas sucked out too great. With the breather pipe off, there is no sign of any oil being thrown out, yet immediately the pipe is fitted, a loss of a pint takes place. This is with the above pipe. Our own scheme practically overcomes this trouble. We found after draining the oil out of the engine last night the two small revits (enclosed) in the bottom of the measure. We presume these have come out of one of the caps holding the lubricating pipe on a con rod. We do not propose to dismantle the engine for this without our finding further symptoms when draining the oil this evening. AHHancock G.W.H. | ||
