X5410 X4261 We have examined the front springs on S-G-11 car which we recently brought from WW. and find that the near-side top leaf is broken and also the bottom leaf. On the off-side the two bottom leaves are broken. The fracture in the top leaf has occurred under the Woodhead type clip which was held the two pieces in position. The car had been running for some time with the leaves broken. We consider it is very definite that we shall have to improve the front springs on the 20 HP. car before we can satisfactorily fit 4-wheel brakes. The 20 HP. springs, even on the present standard cars, are a weakness. We consider that as Messrs. Firths have been able to immensely improve the 40/50 springs, they ought to apply the same features to the 20 HP. springs as soon as possible. EY. is taking this matter up. We consider another feature which we recommend should receive attention is - increase area of Ferodo on the rear brake shoes. With the present rear brakes on the 20 HP. car we too frequently find that the rear brake drums are very badly scored. When we have a servo, we think that this complaint will certainly be more acute. Our experience on the 40/50 car was that with the foot operated rear brakes, we never had a contd :- | ||
