20 HP. CHASSIS. FRONT WHEEL BRAKES.

So far as Derby are concerned, we have only got a small percentage of the necessary number of design drawings to cover the whole problem of the four wheel brake for the 20 HP. chassis. The axle we have already had; this is detailed and issued.

We are waiting for the servo mechanism and all the equalising/operating gear for the system.

It is quite impossible for me to give any forecast as to when the four wheel brakes are likely to materialise on a car, even experimentally, until I have obtained the necessary drawings or information from West WitteringHenry Royce's home town giving dates as to when they will be able to supply them.

I am taking this matter up with Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} and will let you know something as soon as possible.

It is necessary to remind you that we have thrown a lot more designing work on to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town in attempting to make arrangements by which either the 40/50 HP. engine or the EAC.II can be fitted to the present type chassis. To enable this to be done, certain alterations will have to be made -

a/- To the present 40/50 HP. car before it is delivered,

b/- To the EAC.II engine to make it suitable to take the place of the 40/50 engine later.

This work is being considered of the utmost importance and therefore West WitteringHenry Royce's home town will not be able to give us any work on a 20 HP. Brakes until both the 40/50 and EAC.II problem has been entirely cleared up.
