I should have replied to your memo. referring to the breakage of the change gear shaft lever connection earlier, but have been away from the office since the beginning of this week with influenza, and on returning today I am told that HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} has explained satisfactorily the reason for the trouble referred to in your memo., that is, it was due to a departure from the WW. design. I may mention however that what I have heard is purely verbal, and have received no information direct from HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} about this. AJS.
