x761 To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}B/JH. 2.1.36. Re B-110DG. Mr Geoffrey Smith. The following work has been carried out on the above car by the Repair Dept. in connection with the excessive oil consumption. (1) 1 set of Aerolite pistons and rings fitted special scraper rings to E.B.2686. (2) A standard Bentley oil pump has replaced the large capacity type. The oil consumption was not taken when the car arrived owing to bad weather conditions. Oil consumption after the above modifications had been carried out was, 1077 M.P.G.; this was obtained at an average speed of 45.5.M.P.H. but not driving full throttle. 2nd Test. Driving hard full throttle average speed 46.6.M.P.G. the oil consumption was 648 M.P.G. We have noticed on test with both G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Smith's and Capt. Barnarto's Bentleys that there is more engine noise at high speeds using lead bronze bearings than standard white metal. We cannot however tie it down to any individual cylinder. Other work carried out by the Repair Dept. includes relining the brakes etc.etc. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies} | ||
