P. & R.{Sir Henry Royce} BATTERIES IN 6 VOLT UNITS.
----------------------------

With reference to EFC2/T.7.2.28. giving extract of letter received from Mr. Minchin of Messrs. Peto & Radford, according to our drawings the thickness of the woodwork for the wooden containers in our temporary scheme should be ½" when using the 40/50 size of cells, but we believe that owing to some misunderstanding the P. & R.{Sir Henry Royce} Co. have not given us this thickness in the experimental batteries supplied.

It is impossible for us to increase the width of the sheet metal battery boxes we are providing owing to the close proximity of the torque tubes on one side, and the brake ropes on the other.

In view of the uncertainty of the temporary scheme we suggest that we should order immediately 6 sets of these units with moulded containers from the Chloride Co. in accordance with their recent quotation, and endeavour to get these in time to use them in conjunction with six of the temporary batteries from the P.& R.{Sir Henry Royce} Co. instead of 12 from the latter. If we can make the same arrangement with the P. & R.{Sir Henry Royce} Co. in regard to not charging for the moulds for producing the Dagenite containers, we should also instruct them to go ahead. If there is going to be any trouble with the units in wooden containers, then the only alternative we have is to instruct both firms to proceed with the moulded container scheme.

Will you please let us know as soon as possible what arrangements you are able to make.
