x 676 To Py. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG31.1.28. RE. DH.{D. Henderson - Showroom}9a. Y2810 With reference to Py13/Av/D30.1.28. I am afraid we cannot truthfully say that during the flying up to date on this machine no faults have occurred which would cause a forced landing. As a matter of fact the last failure of the magneto driving gear caused a forced landing. It was a matter of luck that they happened to be over the Aerodrome. Some of the early magneto drive failures too would have made it difficult to land if the machine had been far away from the Aerodrome. It would be an easy matter for the Insurance Co. to get to know from the Pilots exactly how the engine has behaved. The present machine has been flown 42 hrs. 14 mins. We expect, after the overhaul, we shall have very much less trouble. We might therefore at the completion of the 50 hrs. be in a better position to give you the certificate you have asked for.
