re CHASSIS NO. GKC-21. P.J. CLAYTON ESQ.
---------------------------------------

This Owner is seriously dissatisfied with the slow running of this car.

It is fitted with a Philco wireless set, the sparking plug suppressors of which interfere with the slow running of the engine. The car was brought to Derby on the 25th July to see whether any improvement could be made. The slow running of the engine was certainly poor but was perfectly normal with the suppressors removed. These suppressors were then fitted to another car in this Department and the slow running was equally affected.

As it was manifestly impossible to obtain good slow running with the suppressors fitted Mr. Clayton had to take the car away without them and he is now running the car for the time being, without the suppressors, until such time as we are able to offer him any improvement.

The suppressors have since been tested on two experimental cars and we understand that they have been found to have no ill effect on the slow running.

This however, is of no assistance to Mr. Clayton and we shall be glad to hear from you as soon as possible, what action you consider should be taken.

We do not wish to have to ask Mr. Clayton to send the car again to Derby and in any case, we do not see that it will serve much useful purpose as it has been demonstrated on three or four occasions that the slow running is perfect with the suppressors removed but is bad the moment they are re-fitted.

No. 1 cylinder appears to be very slightly oily but the remainder are dry.
