B. RYDAL DENE. PILLING LANE. PREESALL. NR FLEETWOOD. 16 FEB 1937. Experimental Department, Messrs Rolls-Royce Ltd, D E R B Y. Your ref: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}8/AP. Dear Sirs, Further to my letter of the 12th inst. I am herewith enclosing copies of the patent specifications relating to my preselector semi-automatic control for synchromesh gears, as these will give you a better idea of the different forms in which the mechanism can be arranged. Reverting to your question about the self-change spring I omitted to mention an alternative plan in which the initial movement of the clutch pedal disengages the clutch and then holds it out in a manner that requires practically no effort during the further travel of the pedal to compress the self-change spring. I do not think this part of the job presents much of a problem; in fact I see no reason why the whole mechanism should not work very smoothly and reliably for as long as the rest of the gearbox. Yours faithfully, A.{Mr Adams} Alltree | ||
