L. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Grylls, Esq.,
Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited.
Derby.

Dear Mr. Grylls,

Gear Shift Lock.

I have had a letter from our Patent Section in Detroit quoting some correspondence between you and the Buick Motor Company on the above subject. I really am not quite sure why they have written me except that they have sent the enclosed copy of U.S. Patent No. 1.897,851 - A.E.Leach which may cover the device referred to in a letter to you from Mr. W.C. Haight of Buick. In this letter Mr. Haight mentioned that he was writing Mr.Leach asking him to forward you prints and a description of how the device operates. I hope you got the prints, but if not please let me know and I will see if I can get them.

For your information, there is no British Patent corresponding to the above U.S. patent to Leach.

As a matter of possible interest, I am enclosing copy of British Patent No. 372.040 - Thomson - covering a different variety of gear shift lock. This patent belongs to us, but I imagine that we should be very happy to make it quite easy for you to use the device covered thereby if you wished to.
