SUGGESTED MODIFICATIONS.

We attach a copy of our suggested modifications to the R.R. distribution board, which modifications we are putting up to Mr. Day to carry out, in accordance with your note R5/G9.2.20.

It is necessary to make a few remarks regarding the fuses we now propose incorporating in the circuits.

Still further thought given to this matter has indicated that the right place to insert a heavy current fuse is in the main current lead passing from the four point switch and passing through the series coil of the cutout. This particular position for a fuse had not occurred to us previously, but it was a natural development of the idea of making one fuse control both control and negative circuits. A fuse in the new position will in addition have to carry the field current from the battery, should the cut-out stick on.

We have this new arrangement running on the bench and have demonstrated that the best protection available is obtained by this means. With regard to the second paragraph of your note, our object has always been to obtain positions for the fuses such that these are not delicate for
