The 1933 Range of MOBILGREASES A series of products is now available covering the various grease requirements of every type of automotive unit. Just as there is a Mobiloil grade of engine and gear oil suitable for each particular type of unit and for every kind of service for which it may be employed, so also is there a suitable Mobilgrease for every purpose. Considerations of design and operation make it impossible for a single grease to be used satisfactorily for every purpose, but in producing the Mobilgrease range the number of different products has been reduced to the minimum consistent with proper lubrication. Below are given brief descriptions of the Mobilgreases used for lubrication of motor cars, commercial vehicles, and other automotive units, together with the purposes for which each lubricant should be employed. MOBILGREASE NO.2. This product was formerly available as "Mobilgrease" and has gained a reputation as a most satisfactory lubricant for use in grease guns. The nature of the lubricant, which is green in colour, has not been modified in any way, and it is offered as the most suitable chassis lubricant available. It is practically waterproof, whilst its property of adhering tenaciously to metal surfaces is of the greatest value as it assists in prolonging the interval between applications. It is a semi-fluid product, which does not oxidise, and which can be forced without difficulty through small oilways, whilst it is quite impossible for choking of small passages to occur as is sometimes experienced with inferior greases of conventional type. Grease guns may be filled cleanly and rapidly as Mobilgrease No.2. may be poured from a tin; it is also packed in collapsible tubes. MOBILGREASE NO.4. This is an improved grease similar to that formerly known as "Mobilubricant Soft". It is of the highest quality and may be used for chassis lubrication by means of the grease gun where a product of this nature is preferred. Its use is also desirable in certain designs of wheel hubs as the leakage is reduced when compared with Mobilgrease No.2, particularly in cases where the arrangements for preventing leakage from the component are not entirely satisfactory. It is suitable for use in water pump bearings where the lubricant is applied with a grease gun, and is also employed in certain types of garage servicing equipment. MOBILGREASE NO.5. This was formerly known as "Mobilubricant S". It is a special non-separator-grease of high melting point designed particularly for universal joints of the high speed metal to metal type, such as the Hardy-Spicer. Ordinary greases cannot be used with satisfaction as disintegration occurs at the high speeds of rotation normally attained with present day engine speeds. Mobilgrease No.5. is also highly satisfactory for such applications as ignition distributor shaft bearings, particularly where these are mounted above the cylinder head, in which case the temperature at which the bearing works is sufficiently high to render any ordinary grease unsatisfactory. Mobilgrease No.5. is also a very suitable lubricant for heavy load bearings of the roller type such as are employed in wheel hubs. MOBILGREASE NO.6. This was formerly available as "Gargoyle Tallow Compound Hard", and is recommended for the lubrication of water pumps where grease cups are provided for introducing the lubricant. Ordinary greases are not entirely satisfactory on these units especially when the pump is fitted in the pipe returning water at high temperature from the engine to the radiator. The use of Mobilgrease No.6. will reduce the attention necessary and will help to prevent leakage from the gland. | ||
