which he has personal records of, some individual cars have run up to 24000 miles without any trouble.

Actually the gearboxes are sealed before they are sent out and the Siddeley distributors are not allowed to tamper with them but the gearboxes have to be returned to the works if anything fails.

Chryslers' are now fitting the Spool gear as a standard and the model we tried performed very well.

We are hoping to try a Cadillac with the Synchro Mesh before we come out to France.

It is always difficult to get a true impression of these gear-boxes on foreign cars. Then again, although one may get a satisfactory unit for the small powered Siddeley, it would be a very difficult proposition with the 130 HP. engine.

The gear-box we have been running with the double helical 3rd, and the jaw engagement is not very easy for changing gear. It is nothing like as easy as the free wheel on the side shaft. As a matter of fact, I think it might be as well if we developed the free wheel on the side shaft as an immediate scheme in case there is an instant demand for an easy change gear-box. I am not so certain that the easy change gear is going to effect our buyers.

In the case of the Phantom owners, most of them have their own chauffeurs and certainly one would not expect the Trades Union of Chauffeurs to look with favour on the gear which reduced the skill required in driving.
