261 TELEPHONE: GLADSTONE 3333 TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: SPEEDOFAC, PHONE, LONDON. CRICKLEWOOD WORKS , LONDON, N.W.2. SALES DIRECTOR'S OFFICE. 11th January 1938. W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham, Esq., Rolls-Royce Limited, DERBY. Dear Mr. Robotham, When I last had the pleasure of meeting you and we discussed the dynamo on my 4¼ Litre, I expressed satisfaction with this unit. I am afraid I spoke too soon, however, as a day or two after my visit to Derby I noticed that the warning light glowed red for the first two or three miles of running and the maximum output, according to the ampmeter, was from six to seven. Shortly after this the dynamo gave up the ghost entirely and I personally took the car along to your Hendon Service Depot when Mr. Horsley removed the dynamo and did certain other work. It was, however, only a day or two after the replacement dynamo had been fitted that I noticed the dash red warning light showed for the first two or three miles of running and the maximum output of the dynamo, according to the ampmeter, was six to seven amps. On Friday last I found the battery too low even to turn the starter. In fairness to the system I must explain that I have not yet changed to winter oil, but since our folk have fitted a new battery, although the weather has been cold, the starter is well up to its work. I have written you at some length on this subject, giving all the details, as I feel that you should know the facts and, in order that you may have an opportunity of investigating the matter, I will send the car along to Hendon. | ||
