Dear Paul,

I am afraid I have let the job down, because I have discovered that to fit an isolated change speed mechanism to your car would mean lifting the body and would cost you about £25.

My unofficial advice to you is to throw away the whole of the reverse catch mechanism now on the car and fit a stop on the gate like the M.G. you have got in the Lab.

As you will probably not now be coming to Derby, you could overcome the propeller un-balance by jacking up the rear wheels, running the car at 50 m.p.h. and trying different sized washers under the nuts, lubricators or plugs in the front universal, but make sure first that the joint is full of oil.

If you will let me know what is really happening about the Cambridge instrument, I will make arrangements about collecting it, unless you are still coming over here.

Please reply to the Works.

Yours sincerely,
