W/s (a) c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} V4565 BY1/G.25.3.27. re FITTING INTERCHANGEABLE BALLOON TYRES ON EXISTING STRAIGHT SIDED WIRE WHEELS - 40/50 HP. CHASSIS. Further to BY12/G.15.3.27. we have now looked into the question of fitting Dunlop interchangeable Balloon Tyres 33 x 6.60 to existing rims and wheels for straight sided high pressure tyres up to chassis 1-EF i.e. to the end of B-2 series, and give below brief particulars of the points which will have to be dealt with when making these changeovers :- SILVER GHOST CHASSIS WITHOUT F.W.B. 1/- O.K. The tyre clearances in the wheel arch at the rear will be reduced by 1" and the side clearance on rolling bump will also be reduced, therefore the coachwork will require cutting away at this point in order to maintain our standard clearances. 2/- O.K. The right hand lock should be reduced from 33° to 30° to provide clearance between the larger tyre and the side steering tube. The left hand lock should also be reduced from 41° to 38° in order to clear the chassis frame. SILVER GHOST CHASSIS WITH F.W.B. 1/- O.K. The tyre clearances in the wheel arch at the rear will be reduced by 1" and the side clearance on rolling bump will also be reduced, therefore the coachwork will require cutting away at this point in order to maintain our standard clearances. 2/- It is not necessary to change cross steering levers and tube. Chassis having cross steering levers G.73014/5? G.73044/5? should be replaced by levers G.73955/6, together with a new cross steering tube in order to provide clearance between the ends of the cross steering tube and the wheels. The existing steering locks will not require modifying on these cars. PHANTOM CHASSIS, UP TO END OF B-2 SERIES (1-EF.) cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
