N/W Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1320 10. 6. 37. Daily Report on Cooling Tests at Brooklands. As proposed in the last report sent you, we have carried out further radiator tests at Brooklands - the matrix units tested being:- (A) Mark 6 matrix with lightened construction - .005 waterway tinned strip and .003 airway untinned strip. (B) Mark 6 matrix with 1" removed off each side to give space for cool air flow The results of the test on the first matrix indicate a surprising reduction in cooling effectiveness with the lightened construction as compared with the standard Mark 6. core which we have tested here - unless this can be improved upon, we shall not be able to standardise this construction as anticipated. Tests on the second matrix unit mentioned above show a negligable gain with the cool air slots - actually under full throttle conditions the air temperature at the petrol pumps is unaltered while the temperature of air leaving the matrix is increased slightly We are proceeding with the other radiator tests as planned - weather is hot here at present.
