C O P Y. To R. {Sir Henry Royce} from By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Copy to J. {Mr Johnson W.M.} " " Wor. {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} " " Mr Southern. 11th January, 1917 BY {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} /3G11117. X.2214. RE STANDING ORDER NO.35 - ALTERATION TO BRAKES DRUMS; also ALTERATION TO AXLE TUBES+. Reffering to Mr Royce's memo R2/B291216, in which he suggests changing the axle tubes, we have an experimental set of tubes (which have been modified to strengthen the axle arm itself whilst retaining the large taper part of the original tube between spring rest and axle box) ready for testing on revolving stress reversal rig. The second scheme is also well on in the Works and when the results of the above are obtained the job could be submitted to CJ. and R. {Sir Henry Royce} for general order number, if this is thought necessary, in view of actual numbers of broken tubes, which fbr America and the Colonies, may be high enough to warrant the charge.
