To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} X3409 Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/WW6/W19.8.27. Pre-war type S.G. Chassis No. 3-EB. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Morgan Esq. The above car is in the Repair Dept. for chassis repairs, one of the Jobs being relining of the Brake. Mr. Morgan has requested us to fit "Tenoid" Brake Linings in his particular case. We have turned the job down however, and have informed Mr. Morgan that we have had no experience with "Tenoid" Brake Linings, and we cannot do other than fit the standard linings for his type of chassis which are the Ferodo type. In reply to our communication we have received a rather surprising reply from Mr. Morgan, and we here give an extract from his letter which has bearing on this matter :- "With regard to paragraph 5 - I can only express my greatest surprise at the contents of this paragraph, and I feel sure that what you have written could not have been after consultation with your own experts who control the buying and the using of your Brake Linings. I should strongly advise you to look into this question further before replying to what I am now about to tell you, and for the following very good reasons:- Your Company have had bulk samples of Tenoid which they have tested for a period of six months in France, and their report on the Brake Lining was so satisfactory that they placed an order for it, and I cannot accept the explanation you give as in any sense satisfactory, because by your own report, Tenoid is of excellent quality, equal, if not superior, to any make on the market, and is being used, to my knowledge, in a 40/50 R.R. car within 25 miles of your Works," We shall be glad if you will let us have your remarks on this subject in order that we can reply as early as possible to Mr. Morgan.
