Swindell}6/AP.2.4.37 No.5. Test Bed Ph.III. No.8 This unit to be next on the bed following the return of the Continental Unit (No.14) to the Shop. Special parts includes:- (1) Small base circle camshaft LeC.5320 with tappets to suit. Nos.1, 2 & 3 tappet blocks S/ZN. cloudburst. Nos.4, 5 & 6 Fescolised tappets. Tappet springs only on B. side tappets. In order to obtain as much information as possible regarding the tappets set as follows:- No.1 & 6 Blocks that is A.1,2,11 and 12 also B.1,2,11 & 12 with the hydraulic mechanism in operation as standard. No.2 & 5 Blocks that is A.3,4,9 & 10 also B.3,4,9 & 10 to be run at nominal clearances of .006" Inlet and .008 Exhaust" the hydraulic action being deleted by removal of the plunger return springs. A.5 & 6 and B.7 & 8 tappets as 1 & 6 blocks. A.7 & 8 and B.5 & 6 " as 2 & 5 " Run one hour under Bentley endurance speed. Fitters to remove tappets for inspection whilst on the bed, if in good condition rebuild and run further 9 hours.
