-3- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}6/AP.2.4.37 New parts are as follows:- (a) A.C.7. (std. Bentley) main bearings. (b) A.C.4. big end bearings. (c) Packard type of crankshaft. (d) L.section compression rings and high pressure scraper rings. (e) New heads Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}160 otherwise similar to previous headson this engine which were damaged. (f) Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}260 springs on A.{Mr Adams} side and EB.3256X. springs on B.side. (g) Oil temperature regulator deleted. (h) Special oil pump and water pump cases and Fabroil idler. The programme for testing the engine is as follows:- 1. Running in and power curve, see curve 1. of SP.{Mr Spinney}39. 2. Observe valve surge and bounce with Bentley springs. 3. Observe for crank period and roughness. 4. Set the oil pressures to give at an inlet temperature of 100°C and 4000 R.P.M. Main bearings 30 lbs/Sq.in. Rocker feed 4 lbs/sq.in. 5. 1 hour oil consumption at 4000 R.P.M. and repeat to see if constant. 6. Gear quieteners to attend to the timing gears and engine generally tuned up with any leaks etc. corrected. 7. Observe tappet noise at .006 inlet and .008 exhaust setting. B.19 Unit. Continue endurance as previous memo. In conjunction with this obtain new standard large capacity helical pump LeC.4288 from JW. and check pressures using the standard spring as fitted EB.2135. General 1. Report of tests carried out on B.9 unit required. 2. Report and curves of tests carried out on Ph.III. No.3 required. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} | ||
