X7420 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. v.{VIENNA} I. S. A.{Mr Adams} Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}10/H20.3.30. re. PHANTOM II. BRAKE SQUEAKS. This still continues to be a source of trouble on the above chassis, as demonstrated to you yesterday. The squeak and groan takes place when one is pulling up the car and gets worse as the car comes to a standstill, and chiefly emanates from the front brakes. The trouble exists in spite of the latest instructions as regards bedding and damping arrangement, and the only cure we have at present is that of "doping". Although this allows us to pass the cars, they do not remain satisfactory and we find some trouble still exists when testing the complete finished cars. Although it may be pointed out that this trouble does not exist on Experimental cars and that some productions cars do not have the trouble, it must be looked upon as a general fault and one which requires attention. You will remember that on our early Phantoms this weakness was discussed and it was considered that the squeaking would go off when used, but the trouble still exists. Br's report that he is having to give attention to the brakes owing to this trouble confirms this. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} | ||
