EFC. WA.{Mr Wallis}10 COPY. 22.2.24. X.4430 - TEST OF CONDENSER No.378 FROM CHASSIS GA.70. This condenser was received from BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} with the request that we should conduct a test with it to ascertain if the condenser had been the cause of the burning of platinum points on the above distributor (See BY14/P5.2.24) Accordingly the condenser was carried through clauses 6 to 10 of the production test for Goshawk condensers and is as follows :- 6. O.K. 7. O.K. 8. Milliamperes at 202V 18.5ºC = 24. Capacity = .374 mf. 9. The condenser was given a short run with spark points set at 6.5 m.m. during which no sparking at the platinum points was observed and there was no appreci-able missing at the H.T. gap. 10. Capacity at 45ºC = .58 mf. It will be seen from the above results that the con-denser has a rather high capacity which would tend to decrease the sparking at the contact breaker points if the condenser had been making good contact with the distributor. It therefore appears that the fault is probably due to the fact that the condenser was not making good contact between the distributor case and primary terminal. H.E.W. | ||
