Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., -2- 27th.,February/23. These outstanding points have been confirmed both by Laboratory Tests and also by practical Bench and Road Trials by a number of well-known Motor Manufacturers to the extent that those mentioned below, for these reasons alone, have adopted them as standard and are using them on their own Works to-day and recommending them to their customers. These firms are :- Messrs.Vauxhall Motors Ltd., Rover Co., Humber Ltd., Straker Squires, Hampton Engineering Co., Phoenix, etc.,etc., No doubt you have test engines which are continually in service, and we should much appreciate having an opportunity of supplying you with a sufficient quantity of Oil to run such a test out, and then an examination be made at the end of this trial for carbon deposit. We are enclosing with this letter a leaflet which briefly advertises these facts and gives the results of two or three trials. On the top of the page the discs show the result of a chemical test by Vauxhall Co., whereby the Oil was heated up to 480°F.{Mr Friese} and the micro-photographs show the results at that particular temperature. The second test by the Rover Co., comprises three sets of figures of deposit taken from our Oil and two others, which was a Bench Test conducted on an Engine after a 20 hours run in each case, and we think the figures are outstanding in the results as far as the practical carbonisation test goes. The third, a trial run by Messrs. Straker Squire on an Engine which normally ran about 2,500 miles whereas the same Engine was run until it was taken down about 8,000 miles. The results of these tests were handed to us by the various Companies concerned entirely from their own research work. We understand from your Buying Department that you are at present covered for your requirements, but at the same time as these tests often take some months, we would forward the necessary amount of oil as soon as you have a demonstration car that could be used. We shall be glad to have your decision. With thanks in anticipation, Yours faithfully, FOR ALEXANDER DUCKHAM & COMPANY LTD. [Signature: A.{Mr Adams} J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Duckham] Continued:- | ||
