X4308 To Roy {Sir Henry Royce} /JT. from EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 1/T21.12.28. A.T. SPEEDOMETER B.563. On enquiry concerning this speedometer it transpires that this was taken down because it was not water-tight, and in the first instance was simply cleaned out and re-erected. A few days afterwards water again appeared in the instrument. It would appear that we have a reasonable complaint in that these instruments are not water-tight. In regard to the remarks of the A.T. SpeedometerCo., we agree that the seals were broken and that as a result of the cleaning the instrument was put out of order mechanically, accounting for the incorrect reading. We do not agree that the whole instrument was thoroughly oiled up with gearbox oil. Messrs. A.T. should bear in mind that there is no reason for our doing anything to instruments so long as they are O.K. and that necessarily when anything like this does happen, it must have been a fault originally in the instrument itself. As stated above, our original complaint is that the instrument is not water-tight, and for this reason we do not consider that we should be called upon to pay the whole cost of putting the instrument in order. Will you see what arrangement you can make with them with regard to the repair of this instrument, i.e. whether, in the first instance, we can get it done at their expense, or secondly, if they will meet us 50-50 in the cost of doing this. We attach copy of our tester's report, which may be useful to you to pass on to the makers in explanation of the trouble. EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} | ||
