X8950 N-W. Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to BP. Br7/H.1.9.25. Chassis 123 EM, 16 LM, 103 MC, & 15 MC. Technical - re Pivot Pins and Bushes belonging to the above. We are in receipt of your Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/NRC{N. R. Chandler}10/EW.28.8.25. and we are afraid that you have formed the opinion that an unnecessary scrapping of parts is taking place at "N". We would assure you that this is not so. The whole of the information you give us in your memo concerning points to attend to when curing high speed steering wobbles is already quite well known to us, as, of course, we receive the periodical depot sheets from SP.{Mr Spinney} In every case of complaint we try out all the things mentioned and no part or parts are renewed except as a last resource. You can rest assured, therefore, that when we change parts such as those mentioned above it is because we have had no luck at all in carrying out the various adjustments suggested. With regard to our cures only being temporary, this, of course, remains to be seen. Cars have been brought to us with a definite complaint from the owners and it has been up to us to satisfy them, and until the vexed problem of steering wobbles has been successfully dealt with in production we can only deal with each case as it comes along on its merits and do our best to get over the difficulties. At the moment our papers are all held up at this end pending your decision as regards the charges for these replacements. We ourselves would suggest that, under the circumstances, same can only be debited to Policy. We shall be glad to hear if you concur. Br [Signature] | ||
