CENTRALISED CHASSIS LUBRICATION. X3806 FRONT AXLE CONTROL DAMPER. X8420 X8380 With reference to BY/CGH{W Clough}1/G261127., enclosing LF.998., shewing the new type drip plug in relation to the frame side member and the bonnet stripping, we agree that it looks as though it would be desirable to find another place for this plug. If OY's scheme shewn on L-199. and referred to in OY3R111827. were acceptable this would avoid the necessity of the drip plug on the damper casing at all. We are afraid however that L-199 will look ragged, and have been trying to avoid the use of coils where-ever possible: also we think the lubrication of the entire link is rather indirect. As an alternative to this we send herewith N. sch. 2517. shewing a method of obtaining a positive supply of oil to the upper ball end with the drip plug mounted in the cover which we see you have found necessary, presumably for manufacturing purposes. The lead up the lever remains the same as originally instructed, and though all the piping is beyond the drip plug, as it is well sealed it is almost certain that all the oil will reach the ball end. The only doubt about this cover in our minds is in connection with the shock damper. One of our reasons for not shewing a cover on the original drawing was that we wished to keep the cross dimension as small as possible. We presume however that you have ascertained that the damper can be dismounted with this cover in place, and as the length we are now asking for is the same, presumably the dismounting can still be done.
