Mr.Leslie Kent. 24th Sept.1937

With regard to variations in the valve lift, we realise you cannot hold this to .003" and in our inspection we are managing to do this with selective assembly, in any case we think the lift should not be less than .020".

As for armatures being true with the spindle, we consider this important, to prevent side load on the toggle gear. As they are now tightened up against a step this should not be difficult to obtain, if there are no burrs left on the armature.

We have been requested to alter the thickness of the flange and also the depth to the edge of the pole in the pot. This will mean that with the existing setting the armature will be .030 further in. We would be interested to know what improvement this will make, but in any case all our testing has been done with the existing dimensions and until we have completed tests with these new dimensions, we wish to continue to the old drawings.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
