Attention of Mr. C. Clench.

Dear Sirs,

Hydraulic Ph.III Jacks.

We thank you for your letter CC/MBL 19.12.35, enclosing proposed bracket for front Jacks.

I have discussed this with Mr. Elliot, and it has been decided that -

(1) To adopt this type of bracket would mean a vast alteration to our production parts, the first series of which have already been forged. We think actually a carrier bracket fitted to the "Wish Bones" in place of our present bottom buffer plate is more desirable.

(2) We do not feel that a ground clearance of 6.00" is sufficient and would suggest that in the scheme where the jacks are clamped to the "Wish Bones", the jack base pad in closed position be level with the nuts on the underside of the "Wish Bones". In this position you will find that a 13.500" ram (approx.) is required with a 10.500" extension. This will give you a 1.500" tyre ground clearance, which we feel is the minimum clearance allowable.

If there are any more details you require other than given on the drawings in your possession, kindly let us know, when we will furnish them.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
