S. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES). LTD., 179-185, GT. PORTLAND STREET, LONDON, W.1. Continuation No. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd. The respective ground clearance of the jacks at rest is;- Front - 7 7/8" Rear - 9 1/8" You will appreciate that the 5/16" piping on the rear has reduced the return time by more than half. As requested, we have fitted a standard box to obtain comparative results and this takes 370 strokes, and although takes much longer to raise (i.e. 3 mins. inc) it is easier in operation. We are pleased to note that you will endeavour to arrange for a further Phantom lll to be fitted with Jackalls. We are designing a special bracket for the front, which we propose making in R.R. material and which is very similar to the bracket used on the front of the Bentley car, and for that purpose, we would like to retain the chassis a little longer if this can be arranged. With reference to your request for a test to be made as to where there is any sliding movement on the jack pad (laterally) When raising the car with the tyre inflated, there is no movement whatever, when the tyre is fully deflated there is approximately 1/2" movement, which takes place after the weight is on the jack. We will make a further test to-morrow with the tyre removed, and will write you further. Wishing you the Compliments of the Season; Yours faithfully, pp. S.Smith & Sons (Motor Accessories) Ltd.
