To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}

Bentley.

By making use of the experience gained on the endurance of the high power unit will you please design an exhaust valve with head design as MS.276 on Lec.5115 for trial on the standard Bentley unit.

This type of valve gave very good results with regard to non stretching as reported in the memo. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}11/JH. 20.5.36.

With regard to valve pocketing in the cylinder head we have run with larger valves 1.45 dia. as against 1.35 dia. without any improvement whatever.

Our next endurance is to be carried out with the EX.22594 head in which the water passages are improved and reduced metal section, also lower exhaust guide bossing.

If this does not give the desired results we have in mind for trial 30° seating, increased width of seating and normal 45° valves not stellited.

HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/L.H.Swindall.
