Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG11.10.22. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} DUNLOP TYRES WITH TRACTION TREAD. X970 X4050 In our original experiments with Dunlop tyres with this tread, the Dunlop people recommended that the tyres should be fitted in one direction. We told them that this was utterly impracticable and if it was necessary to do this in order to obtain satisfaction from the tyres, they would be no use to us. In our tests made in conjunction with the Dunlop Company, we took no notice of direction of treads. We carried out tests and found that the only difference was a slight variation in noise caused by the way in which the tyres were treaded. We think that you should tell our people in London that they should write the Dunlop Co. and say it is utterly impracticable for us to fit our tyres in a certain direction.
