X4050 c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/Thn5/H10.10.22. re. DUNLOP TYRES WITH TRACTION TREAD. X4050 X990 We learn from our London people that Messrs. Dunlop are very keen that the Traction Tread tyres should be fitted so that the tyres always run in a certain direction. We believe they contend that the point of the "V" should come in contact with the ground last. We have not received any such instructions and are fitting tyres on all wheels so that the number on the tyre is on the outside, which has been our universal practice. This means of course that the tyres on one side of the car are running in the reverse direction to that which we understand the Dunlop people are keen on. We have pointed out to our London people that if we are to fit tyres in accordance with Dunlops desire, then the tyre fitted on the spare wheel will only be adaptable to one side of the car unless the cover is changed round, should it be required for the other side, and if Messrs. Dunlop insist on carrying out these recommendations, it will to a certain extent affect the interchangeability. We think perhaps it will be as well to take this matter up with Dunlops and ascertain their views definitely. (RECEIVED) EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 10 OCT 1922 | ||
