-2- Contd. i.e. sufficiently so for our Test Dept. to condemn it. It gave a very good alround electrical performance. It was also 2 lbs. lighter than other machines and also cheaper. It has always been considered that we test foreign machines only from the point of view of information and with no idea of possible standardisation. Scintilla. Comparatively recently we had a Scintilla type GN.6. magneto for test. Here again, apart from the noisiness, the electrical performance was reasonably good. The machine was returned to the Scintilla Co., as being of foreign manufacture, we considered we had no further interest in it. Simms. We had about July 1926 two lightened Simms magnetos for test. These were very good electrically but they had not got continuous cams and were heavier than we liked, and we considered they would have very little chance in their then present form of being generally satisfactory on our chassis. The reason that further negotiations with the Simms Company were dropped was, we think, on account of their financial position at that date not being considered satisfactory. Lucas. The position in regard to these magnetos will be fairly well known from our various reports. Generally speaking they have been very satisfactory technically, being quiet running and having a good electrical performance. Contd. | ||
