Lidsey}2/HP.7.7.36. re Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}'s note of 2nd July. With reference to the question of cost, in the event of scrap when plugging up holes in the cylinder head or cylinder block, it is very doubtful whether the cost involved by the scrapping of a head is less than that involved if a cylinder block is scrapped. The figures for the actual pieces involved are as follows, excluding charges:- Material. Labour. Cylinder block. - 5.945/- 36.722/- Cylinder head. - 4.485/- 43.242/- Whether the incidental work costs more when it is necessary to replace a block than in the case of a cylinder head is a doubtful point and can only be decided by reference to the depots.
